Hockey Season Ends Prematurely

A "catastrophic compressor failure" at the MSA on Sunday caused the ice to partially melt and has forced the brass to end the CAHL W11 season two weeks early. The top-ranked regular season teams have been declared the winners.  Yager Bombers (14 pts) are the B League champs and Wolfgang Pucks (16 pts) are the A League champs.  An End-of-Season award ceremony is scheduled at the MSA on Sunday, March 27th at 4PM.

Teal Blanks Bombers

Goalie Tim Jones recorded his first shutout of the W11 season as the Designated Drinkers defeated the league-leading Yager Bombers 7-0 on Sunday evening at the MSA.  While the Bombers skated a short bench, Team Teal executed a complete team-effort in which they dominated TOP, outshot their opponent more than 2-1, controlled face-offs, greatly reduced their opponents' quality scoring chances, and got phenomenal goaltending, once again, from Tim Jones.

Teal forward Bill Streed primed the Drinkers' scoring pump when he backhanded a rebound over sprawling Bomber goalie Jason Getz at 13:27 in the first.  Matt Cassi beat Getz at 3:52 with a pretty bang-bang play from Andy Beck. Blueliner Dalton Ford scored on a wrister from the point that pinballed through a screen and found its way through Getz' 5-hole at 2:42 to end the first 3-0.

Rob Lovaglio got on the board at 11:33 in the second with a wrister in close that beat Getz high on the stick-side.  Bill Streed tallied again at 8:08 with helpers going to Andy Beck and Matt Cassi to end the second 5-0.

The third period got a little chippy as the Bombers started to show some fatigue, but the Drinkers continued their relentless rain of shots.  Rob Lovaglio scored a shortie at 11:59 in the third, his twelfth goal of the season. Ron Goldberg capped off the scoring on a breakaway with a pretty, patient backhanded shot that beat Getz with 1:04 remaining in the game. The Drinkers outshot Orange 56-20 in the game.

The Drinkers' quest for the CAHL W11 League Championship continues on Sunday, March 20th at 2PM when they take on the red-hot Black Ice at the MSA.

Drinkers Cave to Bad Intentions

Defensive break-downs and a lack of quality scoring chances led to the Drinkers defeat versus Bad Intentions 4-1 on Sunday at the MSA.  Rob Lovaglio prevented a Team Red shutout when he scored his 10th goal of the season halfway through the third period.  The Drinkers are facing a must-win situation when they take on the Yager Bombers next Sunday, February 13th at 5PM.
